VCA and Thomas Cox Architects teamed up to participate in the 1st Annual Orange County Canstruction Design/Build Competition benefiting the Orange County Food Bank. Teams of architects and engineers competed to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food.
The results were displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits at South Coast Plaza where the competition was held. At the close of the exhibition all of the canned foods used in the structures were donated to the Orange County Food Bank for distribution to emergency feeding programs that include social service agencies, soup kitchens, churches and senior centers.
This year’s event had 12 participating teams, and the team of VCA and Thomas Cox fared very well. They used approximately 7500 cans to make their creation called “Bear Necessity” and walked away with awards for Most Cans and Best Use of Labels.
